May Chua, also known as whitehorsegrey, is an artist from Singapore based in Toyama, Japan.
Human nature and the subconscious mind is an underlying theme in May’s work. She uses glass to convey the ephemeral and transient quality of moments shared between people and our unmediated interactions with the surrounding environment. The subtle hint offered through optical play within her work in her recent investigations represents intermediary, liminal space that is ever-shifting and constant in its changing.
Hot glass, specifically flameworking and glassblowing, is the area she specialises in and primarily employs to create her work. She strives to combine the unique qualities of both processes in her artwork and is investigating the balance between the two.
